Trump Signals Support for Migrant Farm Labor
June 13, 2025
With immigration enforcement intensifying across the country, President Donald Trump says an executive order is on the way that could help U.S. farmers retain longtime laborers—many of whom lack legal status.
Speaking this week, Trump acknowledged the challenges producers face as labor crackdowns impact farm operations. “Our farmers are being hurt badly,” he said. “They have very good workers. They’re not citizens, but they’ve turned out to be great. We can’t take all their people and send them back.”
While he didn’t provide specifics or a timeline, the former president said the order would also address the hospitality industry, which, like agriculture, depends on migrant labor. “We’re going to have to use a lot of common sense on that,” Trump said.
In April, Trump directed USDA and the Department of Labor to find solutions for undocumented farm labor. Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins said all options remain on the table, but congressional action is still needed.
