About Western Ag Network
Western Ag Network was founded on a legacy of innovation and service to American agriculture. It began in 1985 as the Evan Slack Network, created by legendary NAFB Hall of Fame broadcaster, Evan Slack. Over his remarkable 68-year career, Evan brought ag news to producers across 45 states, four Canadian provinces, and even Australia. A licensed pilot, he famously delivered his reports “on the air and in the air,” pioneering regional farm broadcasting for the Western U.S. with the freedom of flight and a deep commitment to rural communities.
In 2016, fellow NAFB award-winning broadcaster Russell Nemetz joined the Evan Slack Network, helping expand its reach and continuing Evan’s legacy. Russell eventually purchased the network and rebranded it as The Western Ag Network. Since then, WAN has grown from 15 affiliate stations to more than 125 across 11 states. At the start of 2026, WAN acquired the Ag Information Network, further expanding coverage to more than 200 affiliates across 17 states including key specialty markets like vegetables, nuts, poultry, and citrus.
Today, WAN is powered by an incredible team of ag broadcasters, regional and national sales and marketing specialists, and a multimedia production team. While radio remains at our core, WAN strives to be multi-platform media powerhouse, delivering ag news across television, podcasts, YouTube, and social media.
