Superior Livestock’s Corn Belt Classic to Feature More Than 74,000 Head

June 10, 2026

Superior Livestock Auction is preparing to kick off its 2026 summer video auction season with the annual Corn Belt Classic, featuring more than 74,000 head of cattle June 16-17.

Superior Livestock’s Ralph Wade said the Corn Belt Classic remains one of the company’s premier summer events and serves as the official launch of the summer video sales season.

“We like to call it the start of our summer,” Wade said. “This year we've got a little over 74,000 cattle that we're going to be offering.”

The auction will begin each day with Superior’s Sunrise program at 7:30 a.m. Central Time, followed by the sale at 8 a.m. Central. The Sunrise broadcast will feature feeder and cattle producers from across the Corn Belt region.

The two-day offering includes a diverse selection of cattle from across the country, including many Montana calves and a special Tall Grass section highlighting cattle from the Flint Hills of Kansas, Osage country in northern Oklahoma and surrounding grazing regions.

Among the offerings are more than 33,000 feeder steers and heifers, over 11,000 weaned calves, approximately 25,000 calves on cows and nearly 700 head of bred stock, including bred heifers and bred cows.

As the summer marketing season begins, Wade described the current cattle market as one of the strongest he has witnessed throughout his decades in the livestock industry.

“I think the perfect storm finally came about,” Wade said. “We all knew this was coming at some point, but none of us thought it would be as good as it is today.”

Wade said years of herd liquidation, declining cow numbers and tight cattle supplies have combined to create unprecedented market conditions for producers.

“I think it’s just come about over a long period of time that this has been building, and here we are,” Wade said. “I think we’re in for a good run yet on this market.”

While consignments for the Corn Belt Classic have closed, producers still have several opportunities to market cattle through Superior this summer.

Upcoming events include the Week in the Rockies sale in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, July 6-10, with a catalog deadline of June 19, followed by auctions in Winnemucca, Nevada, Sheridan, Wyoming, and additional sales from Superior’s Hudson Oaks, Texas headquarters.

Wade said strong buyer participation and continued demand for feeder cattle are expected throughout the summer auction schedule.

“The market is great, and there are still plenty of opportunities for producers to take advantage of Superior’s summer sales,” he said.
