Rollover Auction to Benefit Family of Jackson County (CO) Rancher

May 28, 2024

Tragedy struck a Jackson County ranch family just after branding calves this weekend and Wednesday is a day the ranching community across WAN can come together to support one of our own.

Jackson County rancher Mike Morgan was killed this past Saturday by a lightning strike. The strike, neighbors said, knocked 100 head of cattle to the ground, killing 34 head. Mike was on a feed wagon at the time moving pairs to grass. He is survived by his wife, Nikole and daughter, Dallas. He welcomed people to his ranch, and many came to assist him with fladry installation and maintenance and other chores, as he showed them what ranch life is like in wolf country, up close and personal.

An account at Mountain Valley Bank has been established to support his family and checks can be made payable to either Nikole Morgan or Dallas Morgan. Mountain Valley Bank has branches in Walden, Steamboat, Hayden, Meeker, Ft. Collins and Greeley. You can also go into a Platte Valley Bank location in Wyoming and Nebraska.

The 25 calves orphaned Saturday will sell Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Centennial Livestock in Ft. Collins. There will be a rollover auction with all proceeds going directly to the family. Bids and donations will be accepted online or by contacting the office.

These 25 Angus cross calves are 2 to 4 weeks old and were vaccinated and branded just prior to this tragedy. Calves were vaccinated at birth with alpha 7 and multi min and at branding they received vista one, vision 7 and multi min; the steer calves were cut with a knife and implanted with Ralgro.

Our best wishes are with the Morgan family and friends as they navigate this loss. Visit CLA at casauction.com.
