Fifth-generation Western Colorado farmer Joseph Bernal elected to American AgCredit Board
July 14, 2025
The farmers and ranchers who own American AgCredit elected Joseph Bernal to the cooperative’s board of directors. Bernal, who operates a corn, wheat, and alfalfa farm, and partners with his son and nephew on a cow calf operation, has been part of the farm’s multi-generational business near Loma, Colorado for over 40 years.
“Joe’s a lifelong farmer who brings a forward-thinking mindset to the board,” said Joe Alamo, chair of the American AgCredit board. “He’s active in local water associations, workgroups, and committees focused on water rights, as well as other regulations and legislation supporting agriculture. This view to the future – along with his focus on the people and relationships that make an organization successful – is imperative as we evolve our cooperative to serve future generations of farmers and ranchers.”
According to Alamo, globalization, regulations, consumer demands, and advances in technology create challenges and opportunities for farmers and ranchers. American AgCredit’s agricultural expertise and partnerships across the industry – and beyond – help customers face these changes and build their business for success long into the future.
American AgCredit finances a diverse agriculture portfolio, including dairies, tree nuts and fruit, vegetables, beef cattle, and field crops – as well as vineyards and wineries.
A 22-member board governs American AgCredit and oversees the management of the cooperative. Of these directors, 18 are elected by the stockholders and represent the geographic regions of American AgCredit’s territory. Four are appointed by the elected directors.
