Colorado Cattlemen's Mid Winter Wrap Up

DENVER, CO., November 13, 2025– Colorado Cattlemen's Association has wrapped up their Mid-Winter Conference in Denver after committee meetings, a reception with lawmakers, and the presentation of awards.

CCA president Curt Russell said the atmosphere was positive at the meeting, which isn’t to say there wasn’t plenty on the minds of members gathered in the Mile High City.

“There was certainly some discussion in the marketing committee, in the hallways about the market disruption episodes,” Russell said. “Starting with (rumors of) importation of Argentinian beef and then rumors of opening the Mexican border and then the Secretary of Ag saying we’re not going to open the border and the President saying we’re going looking at opening the border, then rumors of doing something on Brazilian tariffs and then, of course, the packer investigation by Department of Justice. At this point, basically our stance is investigate them, if you find something, prosecute them, if you don’t, let them do their job.”

Russell said there was also extensive discussion about the State Land Board’s upcoming decision on the disposal of the La Jara property to the Bureau of Land Management. The deal has been in progress for seven years with overwhelming support of stakeholders and the State Land Board has recently requested alternatives from staff that pivot from the sale. That decision is on the SLB agenda this week.

Congratulations also to Colorado Cattlewomen Rookie of the Year Megan Cassidy, and Cattlewoman of the Year Sara Shields.

Some exciting news to come out of the Mid Winter Meeting as well, CCA is on schedule to move into the remodeled Exchange Building in Denver by January and in time for the National Western Stock Show.
