Cattle Markets Rebound Wednesday as Border Stays Closed
October 29, 2025
Cattle futures rebounded Wednesday (10.29.25) after last week’s last weeks political commentary on beef prices ran the market lower. Todays gains were fueled by news that while Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins met with Mexican officials this past Friday, no date has been set to reopen the border amid ongoing screwworm concerns.
According to Reuters, both countries are making progress and testing mobile sterile fly plants to help eradicate the pest. That optimism helped lift futures:
• Live Cattle (Dec 25): +4.325 → $230.900
• Feeder Cattle (Nov 25): +8.675 → $342.075
Across the region, ranchers hope stronger futures will soon lift prices in the sale barns:
📍 Lewistown Livestock Auction (MT): 3,400+ head sold, calves down 8–15% from last week.
📍 Montana Livestock Auction (Ramsey): steady to $7 lower. 550-600# $386.50–$425.50
600-650# $350.00–$388.25.
📍 Winter Livestock Auction (Riverton, WY): feeder calves saw sharp price declines across all classes — 550–600 lb. $386.50–$425.50; 600–650 lb. $350.00–$388.25.
