Applications Open for the Lamb Industry NextGen Program

October 2, 2026

The American Lamb Board (ALB) is now accepting applications for the inaugural Lamb Industry NextGen Program, a two-year leadership development experience and professional network created for the next generation of U.S. lamb industry leaders.

Through a competitive application process, participants will be selected for a program combining industry education, travel, hands-on learning, leadership development, mentorship and networking. Participants will gain a broader understanding of the entire lamb industry while exploring best management practices, emerging technologies, innovative businesses and new market opportunities.

The program is designed for individuals who are committed to building their futures in the sheep and lamb industry and want to strengthen the skills, knowledge and relationships needed to lead it forward.

A Two-Year Industry Experience

The inaugural cohort will participate in a variety of in-person and virtual learning opportunities throughout 2027 and 2028.

2027 program activities will include:

  • Attendance at the American Lamb Summit
  • A Western Industry Tour and Leadership Workshop
  • Virtual meetings and small-group projects
  • An interview and selection process for the program’s global leadership opportunity

2028 program activities will include:

  • Attendance at the annual American Sheep Industry Association Convention
  • Participation in the National Lamb Feeders Association Leadership School
  • An Eastern Industry Tour and Leadership Workshop
  • Continued virtual meetings and small-group projects

Two participants will also be selected to represent the US lamb industry during the LambEx/Global Tour, where they will gain international exposure, connect with sheep industry leaders from around the world and bring new ideas and insights back to the U.S. lamb industry.

Beyond the formal two-year experience, Lamb Industry NextGen will build a lasting professional network that supports continued learning, collaboration and leadership across the industry.

Who Should Apply?

ALB is seeking emerging leaders from across the U.S. sheep and lamb industry. Applicants may include producers, students, entrepreneurs, employees, educators and allied-industry professionals, with preference given to individuals actively involved in sheep and lamb production.

Strong applicants will demonstrate:

  • A commitment to a long-term future in the U.S. lamb industry
  • Leadership potential and a willingness to serve
  • Curiosity about all segments of the lamb value chain
  • An interest in innovation and continuous improvement
  • A willingness to learn from and collaborate with others
  • The ability to participate fully in the two-year program

Applicants do not need to come from large operations or hold formal leadership positions. ALB encourages applications from individuals representing different regions, production systems, backgrounds and experiences.
