Thousand Hills Angus Hosts Montana Tour Stop

October 3, 2025

One of the featured stops during the 52nd Annual Montana Angus Tour in Southwest Montana was at Headwaters Livestock, where cattle from Thousand Hills Angus of Toston, MT, were on display. Owner Rick VanDyken shared his family’s focus on raising fertile, functional mama cows and the importance of seeing cattle in person.

“Numbers are great, but if you can’t see the cattle, you can’t truly judge them,” VanDyken explained, emphasizing that real progress comes from combining data with boots-on-the-ground evaluation.

Beyond the cattle, VanDyken said the best part of the tour was connecting with people: “It’s the best part—meeting new folks, catching up with old friends, and talking about the best business in the world, ranching.”

Looking ahead, he’s encouraged by the next generation: “For a while, everyone talked about ranchers getting older and older. Now, I’m starting to see young people getting involved, and that really excites me.”

The VanDyken family invites cattle producers to their next production sale on March 14, 2026, at Headwaters Livestock. Learn more at thousandhillsangus.com
