Stillwater County Approves Montana Lamb Feeding Facility Near Molt

July 2, 2026

After weeks of public discussion, the Stillwater County Commission voted unanimously Thursday to approve a conditional use permit for Henry Hollenbeck's proposed indoor lamb feeding facility near Molt.

The 3-0 decision reverses an earlier recommendation from the county planning board to deny the project and allows construction to begin later this summer.

Commissioners attached several conditions to the approval, including installation of a fence and landscape buffer along the property's southern boundary and a restriction prohibiting manure pit pumping during events at the Molt Community Center.

The proposed facility will convert a former grain elevator site into an enclosed lamb finishing barn, creating a new market for Montana grain while strengthening domestic lamb production. Hollenbeck has said the project is designed to improve manure management, provide valuable nutrients for area farmland, and support a vertically integrated Montana lamb supply chain.
