Montana Premium Processing Cooperative Welcomes Anna Merriman to Board
January 9, 2023 - Montana Premium Processing Cooperative in Havre has announced newly elected board members. Paul Neubauer and Brett DeBruycker were re-elected by co-op members, while Anna Merriman was elected for the first time to the board.
The USDA inspected meat processing facility processes beef, lamb, pork, and bison. Member ownership increases stability and value for producers and transparency for consumers.
Merriman, who farms and ranches near Malta at 4M Farms, said she’s excited to join the board. She called the facility essential to helping producers grow their businesses and consumers grow their confidence in their food supply chain by fostering relationships between them and producers.
“MPPC helps facilitate these relationships by processing the livestock under the rules of the USDA, allowing producers to expand their customer base to restaurants, online sales, etc. In addition to helping producers, it’s also providing labor opportunities in the local community and educational opportunities with the collaboration with MSU-Northern,” Merriman said.
“The facility in Havre has an excellent team, the co-op members are supportive, and the board has worked very hard to get MPPC where it is now. I’m excited to see where the collaboration with MSU-Northern and their Meat Science Curriculum goes, if there’s potential to duplicate the MPPC model in other rural Montana communities and continue to help in any way that I can towards keeping MPPC growing,” she added.
