November 11, 2021

Great Falls – Montana Grain Growers Association leadership attended the Wheat Industry Fall Meetings in Kansas City, Missouri. The meeting was a joint effort with National Association of Wheat Growers and U.S. Wheat Associates.

The National Association of Wheat Producers (NAWG) is the major representation for wheat growers in Washington, D.C., striving to secure a better future for America’s growers, the industry, and the general public. MGGA President Mitch Konen serves on the Environment and Research Committee, NAWG Executive Board & the Wheat Breeding Innovation Committee through U.S. Wheat. Vice President Tryg Koch serves on the Domestic Trade Policy Committee. Past President Vince Mattson serves on the Special Climate and Sustainability Committee. Former President Gary Broyles serves on the National Wheat Foundation and Special Operations Committee.

Topics discussed over the three days in Kansas City include domestic and international trade, Farm Bill, research, pesticides, Waters of the United States (WOTUS) and had several opportunities to hear from industry partners from Syngenta, Ardent Mills and Bayer.

"The second-best thing, follow farming, is traveling across the country being able to advocate for Montana grain producers.” Alison Vergeront, EVP of MGGA said. “The officers keep in close contact with our members throughout the year and they take those conversations to our national meetings.” Vergeront added. “Montana’s voice is strongly represented and respected within NAWG."
