Cattle Video Market Season Kicks Off at Superior's Corn Belt Classic

Superior Livestock's two-day Corn Belt Classic video auction reported sales on 71,089 head out of 73,352 head offered. Supply consisted primarily of feeder steers and heifers, with 67% of the offering originating from the South Central region, 25% from the North Central region, 3% from the Southeast, 3% from the Northeast/Upper Midwest, and 2% from the West. Demand remained strongest on reputation calf programs, value-added cattle, and fall-delivery offerings. Steers
North Central cattle were among the strongest-performing feeders in the sale. Demand was especially aggressive for fall-delivery calves from 500-700#, with many lots selling from the upper $400s into the upper $500s. Yearling steers weighing 850-1,000# generally traded from the mid-$300s to upper-$300s, with value-added offerings receiving additional premiums. Nebraska and the Dakotas produced several of the highest-value yearling trades of the auction.
Heifers
Demand remained strong on both replacement-quality and spayed heifers. Lightweight fall calves sold at substantial premiums while yearling heifers generally traded from the low-$300s to mid-$300s. Value-added and spayed offerings consistently sold above regional averages.
