Calf Market News: Superior Livestock Corn Belt Classic Results

June 17, 2022

The first real test for the 2022 calf market occurred this week as Superior Livestock hosted its Corn Belt Classic video auction in Sioux City, NE. Over 66,000 head of cattle and calves sold on June 15 and 16th and prices were impressive.

USDA reported that “Feeder steers and heifers were lightly tested in most regions last sale; however, trades in the South Central region sold sharply higher with instances of 10.00-15.00 higher. Feeder heifers in all other regions were mostly for out-front delivery last sale. Bulk of the offering was in the South Central region again for this sale. Grazing cattle traded steady to 5.00 higher as much of the central part of the country has received needed moisture sparking interest on cattle suitable for grazing.”
