Auctioneer Randy Searer’s Battle for a New Liver: A Journey of Strength and Hope
August 28, 2024 — In April 2024, Randy Searer noticed something wasn’t quite right. His body was retaining water, and for the first time in his life, he considered seeing a doctor. This small but significant decision marked the beginning of a challenging journey.
Randy is a well-known figure in Eastern Montana. Selling livestock from the auction block, announcing rodeos and supporting youth across the state.
Randy’s first stop was the emergency room at Billings Clinic. After numerous visits, tests, and consultations with a dedicated team of doctors, the diagnosis was clear and devastating: end-stage liver failure. Understanding the urgency, Billings Clinic quickly referred him to a specialist and a transplant center in Denver, setting the stage for what would become a race against time.
On Tuesday, August 20th, Randy found himself in the Emergency Room in Sidney, feeling unwell. The situation was serious enough that he was airlifted to Denver for immediate care. Just six days later, on Monday, August 26th, his medical team completed a crucial heart test, the final hurdle he needed to clear before being eligible for a liver transplant. The test results were positive, and Randy received the life-changing news—he had been placed on the transplant list.
Throughout this ordeal, Randy has held on to his motto: "Never weaken." His resilience and determination have inspired everyone around him, and the community has rallied to support his fight. Donations from a fundraiser are helping cover his medical and travel expenses, alleviating some of the financial burden as he continues his battle for a new liver.
Randy’s story is one of courage and hope, a testament to the power of perseverance in the face of life’s toughest challenges.
Tim and Kristin Larson of Sidney Livestock Market Center will graciously host a calf roll-over auction to support the Searer family. The sale will take place September 18, 2024 starting at 1:00 PM at Sidney Livestock Market Center.
Other roll-over auctions will be held at Miles City Livestock, Glasgow Stockyards and St. Onge. Dates to be determined.
