American Lamb Board Focused On Helping Sheep Producers Profitably Grow Their Operations
January 17, 2025
One of the groups meeting this week here at the American Sheep Industry Association's Annual Convention in Scottsdale, AZ is the American Lamb Board. ALB Chair and Kansas producer Jeff Ebert says that the Lamb Checkoff continues to fund programs that benefit both producers and consumers.
"we had a very good, informative meeting, and we're constantly looking for other ways to promote the American lamb to the consumers, but at the same time help our producers generate more income as well," said Ebert. "We we look at all aspects of it from the education, research and promotion. We want to spend those checkoff dollars in different ways."
He says it's also pretty amazing what the American Lamb board is doing, considering their one of the smallest checkoff programs in agriculture.
"Yes, absolutely," said Ebert. "I've seen a report that USDA puts out where our $3 million budget compared to beef and swine, but even even watermelons and blueberries and strawberries. We have less checkoff dollars than a lot of the other commodity organizations. Our staff does an excellent job of managing that money and putting promotion dollars where it needs to be. Whether it's social influencers, chefs, bloggers, whatever it takes to keep the word out about American lamb."
He says the Lamb Board's website is also a great resource for producers and consumers to keep up to date on Lamb Checkoff funded activities and projects.
"Our our website is constantly updated," said Ebert. "It was another thing that we saw at our meeting. They're adding stuff to it every every week. Websites need to be kept updated and our staff does a great job of, of doing that."
Some of this year's Lamb Checkoff funded projects includes six targeted grazing workshops at different locations across America, along with the American Lamb Summit in July at the University of Idaho in Moscow. To learn more and to get registered, you can visit www.lambboard.com.
