Wildfire Relief Fund: MT Stockgrowers Foundation Launches Donation Hub
August 27, 2024
The Montana Stockgrowers Foundation (MSF) is seeking donations for its Wildfire Relief Fund to aid Montana livestock producers impacted by the devastating Remington Fire in southeastern Montana. As of Tuesday morning, the fire has ravaged over 196,000 acres, leaving many ranchers in dire need of support.
The Wildfire Relief Fund is primarily focused on securing financial contributions, which are most immediately needed. However, the MSF is also accepting in-kind donations such as hay, feed, pasture, and fencing supplies. Donors can submit these offers through a form on the Wildfire Relief Fund page, and submissions will be forwarded to local coordinators to ensure timely delivery to affected areas. Montana Stockgrowers staff have been on the ground, attending a coordination meeting in Forsyth to assess the needs and collaborate closely with local coordinators to distribute funds and supplies effectively.
MSF Chair Ty McDonald emphasized the long-lasting impact of the fire on the region's ranchers, stating, "The Remington Fire has had devastating effects on ranchers in the region that will be felt for many years. The Montana Stockgrowers Foundation is here to support our friends and fellow ranchers in southeastern Montana as they rebuild and recover after this natural disaster."
Local emergency coordinators are urging livestock producers who have experienced losses to report them promptly. Ranchers in Rosebud County should compile a list of their losses and send it to kraymond@rosebudcountymt.com. Contacts for producers in Big Horn and Powder River counties will be established soon, with updates available on the MSF website.

Efforts are also underway in Wyoming. on August 28th, 2024 at 1:00 pm Buffalo Livestock will be hosting a Rollover auction to benefit the ranchers in Northeast Wyoming and Southern Montana who have been affected by these devastating fires. This money will go to the Northeast Wyoming and Southern Montana Wildfire Fencing Relief Fund and will be used to purchase fencing supplies to be donated to ranchers in need.
