NFU Convention Highlights Fight for Family Farmers and Need for Modern Farm Bill

March 8, 2026

The National Farmers Union gathered in New Orleans for its 124th Annual Convention, bringing together farmers, ranchers, and ag leaders from across the country to discuss the future of family agriculture. Rob Larew, National Farmers Union President, talks about the organization’s mission to keep family farms and ranches viable and the challenges producers are facing across rural America.

Larew says Farmers Union members are focused on solutions as agriculture faces another difficult period. One of the group’s top legislative priorities for 2026 is working with Congress to pass a new U.S. Farm Bill, noting that current policies are largely based on the 2018 Farm Bill and may not reflect the realities farmers face today after a pandemic, natural disasters, and global trade disruptions.
