Cattlewomen Kick Off Cattle Industry Convention in Moo Orleans

January 31, 2023

This week the Big Easy has been transformed into Moo Orleans for the Cattle Industry convention and NCBA trade show. And this year, the American National Cattlewomen (ANCW) helped kick things off here in Louisiana.

"We still stand on those three pillars that we were organized on, and that is beef education, promotion and development and legislative," said ANCW president Reba Mazak from Florida. "But now we go to Washington, D.C., and we represent cattle producers because we are cattle producers ourselves. And with social media and the changing of times, we've learned to accommodate people through that as well. We just have been able to stay in our organization and do well because we're used to changing with what happens now."

Each year. one of the highlights of the Cattle Industry Convention is the NCBA Trade Show, which this year covers over seven acres.

"Folks can expect over 350 exhibitors from all across the industry for everything from equipment to pharmaceuticals," said NCBA Manager of Marketing and Trade Show Emily Desormeaux. "We even have a great retail area. The trade show is also 100% sold out, So, we're really excited that we maxed out this trade show floor. We got in everybody that we possibly could, and we're really excited to really kick it off with this completely sold out show."

A special attraction are the live cattle demonstrations featuring topics like low stress cattle handling and which chutes and scales might work best on your operation.

"We're going to demonstrate low stress cattle handling effective stockmanship," said Arizona rancher and stockmanship expert Dean Fish. "We have two of the best in the world I think Curt Pate and Ron Gill that are going to come down here and do stuff on horseback, they're going to do stuff on foot, they're going to go through a sweep system, and they're going to use a bud box. So, kind of demonstrating everything that you might run into at home and kgive you some tips and ideas on how you can maybe do a little better job or a little easier job and make make it easier on a cow."
